Wales’ train services face days of disruption this week after 100 cancellations on friday.
The Class 175 locomotives were pulled out of service after a series of fires caused by mechanical defects and there is insufficient rolling stock to replace them.
Transport for Wales said the services were withdrawn for safety reasons to protect users but the extent of the review and maintentance will affect timetables well into this week.
The work was prompted by three “mechanical failures” which caused fires on Class 175 trains including one on the Welsh borders which had to be put out by fire service from Wrexham, Deeside and Chester last month.
Train users are advised to check before travelling to ensure their journeys can be completed. Replacement bus services may be operating.
