Warmer weather encourages getaways but you need to check if your car is in a good place too, say Holts.
Here are some tips on what to check.
1. Tyres
Tyres are often considered the most important safety aspect to check because they are the thing that connects your car to the road. Check for proper tread depth, cuts or bulges, and ensure that the tyres are inflated properly.
2. Brakes
Physically checking your brakes is difficult, but you should pay attention to whether the brakes feel spongey, slow stopping time and general responsiveness of your brakes to check whether they need maintenance.
3. Lights
It’s not just your main headlights that might need checking, you should check your hazard lights, brake lights, registration lights and fog lights.
4. Fluid Levels
Correct fluid levels are crucial for the proper operation of your car. Check coolant levels, oil levels and brake fluid levels as a minimum. There are plenty of guides online on how to do this.
5. Safety Features
Checking safety features such as child seats, seatbelts and child locks beforehand will give you peace of mind as well as speeding up the process of putting your children in the car.
6. Comfort features
School runs and trips can be a hassle, but they can be made easier by being comfortable. Having the cooling/heating system serviced regularly as well as giving your car a good clean can make the journey that bit easier.
