With the six-week holidays around the corner, Cornwall, Devon and North Wales have emerged as the best UK staycation destinations to visit in an electric vehicle.
New research by ATS Euromaster has shown these hotspots ranking top in a nationwide study into the number of summer holiday visitors versus EV chargers in some of the UK’s leading staycation destinations.
With EVs making up over a quarter (26%) of cars on the road in the UK, and 22% of all UK staycations happening in the six-week holiday period, the demand for charging points will be greater than ever before this summer.
It says of North Wales, while it only has 97 charging points, having fewer visitors and EVs than the top two still give it a strong score. Its 2,201 EVs per charger mean that longer waits of up to six hours are possible, but many apps allow you to remotely check the occupancy details of specific charging stations.
For those looking to escape into the great outdoors, the rolling hills and stunning walks of North Wales are perfect. Home to a National Park and several Areas of Outstanding National Beauty, North Wales is perfect for anyone looking for somewhere a little quieter than Devon and Cornwall.

Commenting on the findings, Simon Waye, Technical Support Engineer at ATS Euromaster said, “It’s fantastic to see the boom in EVs on UK roads, and, with the six-week summer holidays coming up, it’s important for drivers to be aware of the best places to visit and the nearest charging points to make the most of their time off.
“Devon, Cornwall, North Wales, the Scottish Highlands and the Isle of Wight all placed highly in our ranking of the best places to visit for families with EVs, making them ideal destinations to beat the queues and make the very best of the British summer this year.”
To make the most out of their staycations, ATS Euromaster recommends EV drivers charge their vehicles before their trips, familiarise themselves with the EV charging points where they plan to stay and travel through, and book in for regular EV servicing to make sure their vehicles are in tip-top condition.
