Wales Rally GB has been cancelled this year, the latest sporting victim of the Coronavirus pandemic.
Motor Sport UK said this morning it had reluctantly taken the decision over the 29 Oct to 1 Nov. British round of the international World Rally Championship due to continuing uncertainties over the development of the virus and social gatherings limitations.
With 100,000 people attracted to the North Wales event it would have proved impossible to safely control spectators.
The event has been cancelled only three times before; during WW2, the Suez crisis in the late 1950s which brought petrol shortages and then the foot and mouth crisis in the following decade.
